Leadership Team

The Leadership Team provides for the day-to-day operation of the summer camp program. Each LT member is assigned to be a camp counselor for Elementary Camp (rising fourth to fifth graders), Middle School Camp (rising sixth to eighth graders) and High School Camp (rising 9th-12th graders). All staff will go through a hiring process that includes a written application, personal interview, background and reference checks. They have completed at least one year of college and prior to camp, will have completed a 10-day training session. Click here for more information on applying.


Head Counselors

{Gabriela & Jake - LT19}

Head Counselors co-lead training at the start of the summer, oversee and support the staff during camp weeks, develop team schedules, and handle all of the behind-the-scenes prep work before and during each camp session.

Assistant Camp Director

{Jacy - ACD}

The Assistant Camp Director works closely with the Camp Director in hiring, training and managing staff throughout the summer. The ACD is responsible for program scheduling and is heavily involved in the day to day camp operations as it involves both campers and staff, ensuring all programming fits in with the core values of Camp Connect.

Jacy Lassiter has worked at Camp Connect throughout the summers of her college years at Kennesaw State University and post graduation as Assistant Director. Jacy has served youth at The Chapel in Brunswick, GA and college students at the College of Coastal Georgia where she is the campus minister. Growing up a camper at Camp Connect, Jacy has served as a counselor, Head Counselor, Program Coordinator and Assistant Director. Jacy is married to Chad and has two furry pups.


Camp Director

{Suzanne - CD}

The Camp Director oversees the Leadership Team and Head Counselors and develops the summer camp program in its entirety. The Camp Director manages the camping budget, hires and trains the staff, markets the programs and develops the risk management strategies.

Suzanne Akins served as a Camp Counselor and Head Counselor at Camp Connect during the summers of her college years at the University of Georgia. Following college graduation, Suzanne served as the Camp Director from 2000-2005 before going home full-time to raise a family. Suzanne returned to Camp Connect as the Director in 2015 and is looking forward to her 14th year in camping ministry. She is married to her college (and camp!) sweetheart Carter and they have 4 children: Lily Kate, Branson, Ruthie and Henry...and a border collie named Georgia.
